My two homes
I’m back home in the Finca after 5 weeks back home in the Iowa(how blessed am I to have two places that feel so much like home!). My time back was busy and full of love. I got to spend time with my parents and siblings, meet my new baby nephew, have quality girl time with my college roommates, celebrate my sister’s pregnancy, and spend lots of time peacefully reading good books and sitting with Jesus. Below are some snapshots of my time spent back in the good ole US of A.
Sibling surprise dinner my first day back =) Surprise!! I came back a week early and didn't tell my siblings! I believe to this day the most beautiful sunsets I've ever seen are from my backyard in Iowa One of my most favorite places, the pasture. Went to Boston to visit my sister Amanda, her husband, and meet my baby nephew! I finally got to meet my lil baby nephew!! Those are some tall ships in the Boston harbor! Sunset view and sister time =) <3 Amanda showed me around all her favorite spots! And I saw some beautiful churches! And some beautiful pastries! More beautiful churches! Of course I watched the World Cup despite knowing nothing about soccer Mom and Dad have put so much work into the flower garden and it is STUNNING That's a pig The sobrinos are best friends and my two favorite people Roomie weekend and waterpark!! mi ahijada =) My friend Paul got to come visit IA and is now a Cyclones fan! Chats with Elysse are good for the soul Sister time in the local coffee shop! The heat in IA was a lot, even for this Caribbean girl. Pool time was a must Baby shower for Baby K! I made that! Hand cut and everything! People say we look similar? Also got some quality time hanging out with the sheep Dad and the sheep! Piper has become very comfortable in the barn. I mean, she pretty much owns the place at this point. Books! Walls of them! Frances patiently taught me Wingspan, despite the fact I couldn't stop laughing the whole time I didn't realize how badly I wanted a bagel breakfast sandwich till I had one and it was incredible! I’ve been reflecting a lot recently how the time I committed to the Finca was 27 months; now, in the blink of an eye, I’m going into my last 4 months. With this final stretch, comes the choice of staying an additional year at the Finca. As I’ve pondered and prayed with this decision, I’ve recalled the advice of my college priest from when I first discerned the Finca – there isn’t necessarily a correct decision on where to go, Jesus is just asking that I give my whole heart and full yes to Him. To be honest, despite committing to the Finca in May of 2024, I don’t think I gave my full “yes” until I had been physically at the Finca for some time. I was actually looking at jobs at the local science center a couple of weeks before leaving for Guatemala! Despite dragging my feet to put my whole heart into the mission, the Lord has been bountiful with my yes. He has planted seeds throughout my time here, gently pulled weeds of pride and sin, and harvested my love and true joy, while nourishing me with His never-ending presence and constant love. Most of all, He has allowed me to know His face in the faces of those I know and love here. I know, wherever I go next year, that His work is not done, and that I will see the fruits of the mission for the entirety of my life.
Please pray for me as I continue my time of discernment and pray for the 5 new missionaries starting their adventure in Antigua! They'll arrive at the Finca at the end of September!!
